When you operate outposts in remote places in Canada, the simplest things become a challenge. Winter though, provides a time when those challenges can be more easily overcome.
For instance, winter road offers lodges and outpost operators a chance to restock without having to fly everything in. There is also no shortage of ice in the winter and those willing to work hard can “put up” enough ice to last all summer.
A select few even look forward to the winter ritual. Kevin Walsten of Walsten Outposts of Kenora, Ontario agrees “I look forward making ice all year – fresh air and solitude – it grows on you.”
Above Kevin and his crew make ice at a remote outpost. Looks like a great winter day…wish I was there!
