Northwest Territories

At the top of the world, the vast Northwest Territories offer almost surreal fishing, hunting, and adventure opportunities nearly 24 hours a day. And while remote, the Northwest Territories are surprisingly easy to reach. Fly into the capital city of Yellowwknife in the west, or in the east, visit Iqaluit, the future capital of Nunavut. Roam the barrenlands with caribou and muskox, and find some of the most spectacular lake trout and northern fishing anywhere. Head north to the Arctic coast and see polar bear or try your luck for Arctic char. Or simply gaze in wonder at the panoramic scenery, wildlife, and endless horizons that time forgot. In the land of the midnight sun, there’s plenty of time to make dreams come true.

On April 1, 1999, the Northwest Territories was split into a western part, still known as the Northwest Territories, and an eastern part, known as the Territory of Nunavut. A new name for the Northwest Territories has yet to be determined. To avoid confusion, many people now refer to the Northwest Territories as the "western" Northwest Territories.
